WEEK 5B BLOG
Earlier this week, singers Chris Brown and Rihanna cancelled their appearances on the Grammy Awards at the last minute. It was later revealed that Brown had been arrested on suspicion of making a criminal threat after he was allegedly involved in an assault on a woman. Though it has not been confirmed by police, it has been reported that the victim was Rihanna. In the wake of this, several radio stations across the country decided to pull Brown's music from their airwaves, only to begin playing it again a few days later. Was the decision to pull his music proper or a rash decision? Do you agree with the decision to put the music back on the air? Should these decisions be made based on allegations? (DUE 2/17)

I think the decision to pull the music was rash. I do not agree with the decision to put the music back on the air. The way this may look to many people is that you can do something wrong and not suffer the full consequences. I don't think they should play his music until he learns how to treat a woman nicely. As of right now these decisions should be based on the allegations because nobody has came out and said that Brown is innocent and until then his music should be pulled.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good thing taking him off the radio. That should be his punishment. He's now getting less and less popular. I think they shouldn't have put him on the air right away. They should have waited until he apologized.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kocher. These decisions should be based on allegations. His personal life, if he likes it or not, has a huge effect on his musical career. He should think about the conscquences before his actions. He's now an adult and he should be treated like one.
ReplyDeleteI dont think it is a good idea to take Chris Browns music off the air. His actions shouldnt have affeceted his music career. I agree that his doublemint contract should have been off the air, but not his music on the radio.
ReplyDeleteI think that pulling his music from the radio stations was a good thing. It tells him what all his fans think and is a sign to show him that what he did was unacceptable. I agree to put his music back on the air, just not until the situation is figured out and he fixes his act up. I think it should be based on allegations, but also on what the people listening to the radio thinks.
ReplyDeleteI think pulling the music was rash. He didn't do anything when he made that music. You can't take one mistake and take away all the accomplishments he has preformed. His music should still be on the radio. What he did was a mistake, but who else has made mistakes? Almost every performer has done something wrong. So shouldn't almost all of the music be off the radio? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteI partially disagree with Kocher. He states that his music should be taken off air until he learns from his mistakes. I stand strong by saying all performers have done similar or worse things. I still think his music should be played on the radio.
ReplyDeleteI agree with bstasik29. Pulling his music is alittle rash. His music career shouldnt be affect by a simple mistake. Abuse runs in his family, i know this wis very wrong and he should be punished for it, but it is affecting his income as well.
ReplyDeleteI think that the decision to pull Chris Brown's music may have been rash since no official information from the investigators has been released yet. However, I understand why the radio stations did it. If it turns out that the allegations are true, then I agree that his music should be pulled but not until more unformation comes out.
ReplyDeleteI agree with bstasik29 when he says that all performers have done similar or worse things. Although I think that what he did was completely wrong, I think that this situation is only getting so much media attention because both involved are famous. Countless other performers have done a lot worse, such as shot someone, and simply received street cred for it.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that his music should be pulled from the air based on allegations. Let's be honest, the media as well as the stars tend to over react so these allegations do not seem credible enough to cause such a reaction. However, I think that since the radio stations did feel that this information was credible, then they should not have put Brown's music back on the air. That just sends the message to people that making threats isn't a big deal and that maybe they should get a slap on the wrist but that in all actuality it doesn't really matter so to go ahead and threaten people.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jenny. I feel that if the allegations are true, then the radio stations were in the right. However, if these allegation are not true, then the radio stations should apologize for their error in judgment.
ReplyDeleteI think radio stations should refuse to play his music because he is a criminal and should be treated like one. Taking him off air and refusing to play his music will make him realize the severity of his actions. Hopefully he will learn a lesson and not do it again.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anna by taking him off air he will be more conscious of his actions and be more careful about the choices he makes. The punishment is harsh ,but it will make him more aware that he will be punished like everyone and isnt above the law. The music shouldnt be banned forever ,but at least until things are figured out.
ReplyDeleteI think that the chose to pull all of Chris Brown's songs was rash. I understand that he is under investigation, but until any news is released he is inosent until proven guilty. They shouldn't make their chose based on rumors. I am glad that they started playing his songs on the radio because he is still not guilty and nothing should change until he is proven to have done something wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn response to Elias, yes they are setting precidents that no one is above the law. However they can not use a man to set precidents that has not been found guilty of any charges. So, if he is found guilty then yes, that would be a good way to show people that they are not above the law. Until then, they had no reason to do what they did.
ReplyDeletei agree with ksilvers. I think that it is a good way to punish him by taking all his music off the air until he gets everything figured out. So now it makes people look at him differently and not want to listen to his music. They still need to wait to put him back on the air until he officially apologizes and they figure out what all happened.
ReplyDeleteI think I was a good idea to pull Chris Browns music from the radio, because it stands up against domestic violence and shows that people shouldn’t tolerate it. They shouldn’t have put his music right back on though, because it shows that it is only temporary consequences. He should pay for all that he has done. Even though these are just allegations, he should still be punished.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Austin; I think it was right for them to pull Chris Browns music. They already have a strong idea that he did commit a criminal threat. The radio stations are just making a stand against this bad conduct, and so I think it is a good idea that they pulled his music.

ReplyDeleteI think it was a proper decision to pull his music off the radio. Most of the time it was the listeners that asked for it and they have the right to choose if his music should be played.I think what he did was wrong and this is a just punishment even if they are just allegations. I think his music should not be put on until the truth comes out.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elias. Not only will it remind Chris Brown of what he did, it will also deter the rest. This shows that people are serious and just because you are famous you cant get away with everything. Once the truth comes out, then it can be decided wether his music can play.
ReplyDeleteThe decision isn't really that debatable. The decision was the radio station's. Radio stations choose to snub people all the time, that doesn't mean it's rash or ill considered. While I personally agree with the decision, it is ultimately irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteKassie, what kind of deterrent is it to refuse to play someone's songs on the radio. He's making enough bank as it is, and the publicity this has gotten him is much more than hearing his songs on the radio. This has benefited him and his label because it's revitalized interest in him. He may not be as popular anymore, but he's a story and now people are paying attention.
ReplyDeleteI think that pulling his music off the air was a little rash. He is under investigation. The police are not sure that he was even the one that did it. If he did it then the consequences should be pulling his music off the air for a while.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elias because he makes a point that by pulling his music off the air than he may learn not to do it again. They should not do anything until they find out the truth.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the decision to pull Chris Brown's music was rash. The radio stations freaked out, thinking that if they played his music, it would reflect their stance on the event. They decided to do this in the heat of the moment, before suspicions were even confirmed. Because the music began to play only a few days later, the radio stations proved that no thought went into this decision.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Briana as she too does not believe that his music should be pulled from the air based on allegations. It is yet to be released whether these rumors are true or not. None of the radio stations know what happened, so I don't think Brown should be punished if they're not even sure he's guilty. People have always enjoyed his music, and just because it is believed he is a part of this, does not reflect the music which was written.
ReplyDeleteIt's a little ridiculous that the music was pulled immediately after the allegations were made. I'm not saying, what Chris Brown did, if he did it, was right in any way shape or form, but that doesn't mean that he should be convicted by the public without standing trial first. It's like "let thee who has not sinned cast the first stone" kind of situation. It was rash.
ReplyDeleteI agree with mallory. To pull his music because of suspicion of a crime is rash. Your innocent until proven guilty. I also believed they thougt playing his music would reflect poorly on them. I think that is the main reason this happend. They corrected their mistake after they realized, they were wrong to do that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tim. This controversy has drawn a lot of attention to Chris Brown. However, I don't believe that a failing popularity would be the basis of the situation...in fact, he's one of the richest people under 25 years old. So, I'm positive that the public wasn't losing interest in him to begin with. I think what may have been the basis was the his girlfriend was sleeping around with people that had STD's...or at least that's the rumor being flung around by E! News.
ReplyDeleteI think that the radio stations were right to pull his songs off of the radio. They usually do pull an singer's music if they do anything controversial, so why should he be any different. I think that they would have had protests to his music if they had played it, so they made a good decision. He will become less popular now that people have seen that side of him.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Elias. I do think that they should pull his music. However, I do not think that it will teach him a lesson or be some sort of "constant reminder" that what he did was wrong. They will play his music again anyways, and he will still have loyal fans who will look past his crime.
ReplyDeleteI think pulling his music from the air was a good call he did something that is unacceptable. As far as puting the music back on the air should happen but not untill everything is cleared up.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anna his behavior was unacceptable and he will be punished for that it will be a wake up call for him about the way you teat a woman and that is not how you do it.
ReplyDeleteI think that pulling his music completely off some radio stations was a little rash. Yes, if true his actions are far from acceptable but their all just allegations. Until a final statement surfaces would I make a decision like that. But after all it is still the radio station's right to play Chris Brown's music if they choose.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kirkhoff. You are innocent until proven guilty. The radio stations shouldn't just jump to the conclusion that playing his music would be a poor reflection on their station considering the fact that no one even knows what really even happened.
ReplyDeleteIt was not harsh by any means to pull chris browns music off the air. If someone is going to assault a women they tobe taught a lesson. He needs to learn that abusing someone like that is wrong. It shows that even if you are rich you will face the consequences.
ReplyDeletei agree with katie and kocker at the fact that he has to look for consequences first. Since he is now an adult, he needs to be more responsible. If he contiues what he is doing then it could have great reprucutions on his carrear.
ReplyDeleteI think taht should have removed his music. They should have gathered all the facts after removing the music. Then if they felt they should put it back on the air then they should. They should remove the music on allegations and then find out all the facts and make their decision.
ReplyDeleteI think like Derek said that if you assault a woman or any one for that matter that you should be punished. They made the right decision if taking his music of the air. Then if he really did not do it they should have put it back on.
ReplyDeleteRadio stations decision to pull Chris Browns music was not rational. Ones work should not be judged by his crimes. Unless his lyrics are about him punching women or any other thing relating to crime his lyrics should not be pulled from the air.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Greg. The music should not be pulled for something he has not been proven guilty of. Listeners should not be able to listen to their favorite music because the artist is a criminal.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Derek and Greg. If you abuse anyone you should be punished. The radio stations D.J.s asked the listeners if they should still play Brown's music. The listener's said no, and were the ones who technically pulled Brown's music. His music should have returned only when this is issue was resolved.
ReplyDeleteI think that it was a rash decision to pull the music. To pull someone's music because they comitt a crime or are a bad role model you must pull half the people on the air's music. Also the fact that these are allegations should be take into consideration.
ReplyDeleteI agree with vince. We can not base his music off his actions. If we do not do it to all celebrities then we can just do it to him. People need to learn to seperate his actions from his music.
ReplyDeletei think that it is stupid that this is done on just words not proven fact. if they base other things on hear say the world would fall apart this is why we go off of fact and not what people say. i see why the would take it off if it was fact.
ReplyDeletei agree with buck that it is all talk but i think that it is rediculas that people care about little things like that and it is just because they are stars. if it was anyone else it would not matter
