As of today, the Indiana Pacers record stands at 26 wins and 36 losses. They are in eleventh place in the Eastern Conference, and are three games out of the playoffs. Arguably, their two best players are injured (one probably out for the season).
With twenty games left in the season, should they "shut it down," get a better spot in the draft lottery, and get their young players some experience? Should they put their best effort forward and try to make the playoffs? Is there an ethical choice to be made here? (due 3/6)

The best move the Pacers could make here is to make a strong effort to win games while playing players such as Hibbert and Rush. Hibbert was a dominating force in college and will likely be one again in the NBA if he can bulk up over the off season and get a good amount of in-game experience. Once we get Granger and Dunleavy back (most likely next season), we can be a real powerhouse if we have a strong center in Hibbert, backed up by Foster, and possibly even pick up a good player out of the draft. The biggest thing now is to get the young guys out there on the court.
ReplyDeleteI believe we should go for it all. I don't know about you, but I like a team who keeps going no matter what. We would lose a lot of fans if we just gave up. You can do anything you set your mind to. That's why I think we should keep going until we lose, or win it all.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tim. We need to make a strong effort to make it to the playoffs. We should put the young guys out there. Show them how its done. We need a team who will keep fighting til' the end.
ReplyDeleteI think what the Pacers need to do is just lose get the first round draft pick then continue on to the next season and see how it goes. If they win the next 3 games good for them, but they will not win the finals, my guess.
ReplyDeletewell, dierovante, you have to keep in mind that we're the only team in the league to beat the Cavs, Celtics, Magic, and Lakers this season. If we make the playoffs, we can make some serious waves by upsetting one of the league's top teams. Once we get Granger back, we definately have the potential to be a heavy-hitter in the playoffs and spoil a few teams Finals hopes.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the Pacers should not mail it in and should keep fighting for the playoff spot. It does not make sense to give up just because you are facing a little bit of adversity. They should go for it all because that is what they are suppose to do no matter what odds are handed to them.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with diervante because it does the Pacers no good to give up just now. Odds are they will not go far into the playoffs but it will be an accomplishment if they make it.
ReplyDeleteI think the pacers should fight till the end. You play the game season by season you don't start out saying were going to lose to get a better draft spot and you shouldn't end it that way. You must be able to believe in your team to get the job done.
ReplyDeleteI agree with fries. You must face adversity head on. Of for nothing else to maybe give a lesson to the younger crowd to never give up. No one should ever give up cause you never know what could happen.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should just keep going. It would just show that we don't want to give up. It shows that we work hard for what we want; a better playoff spot. If we just waited then it would make us look bad and scared to play the games.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the Pacers should give in. They need to keep going and trying. There is no reason to give up just because of some difficulty. We need to keep working hard and work towards a better playoff spot.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Buck Moneyy. You need to face adversity and not run from it. Pacers need to set an example and show everyone that it's not right to give up. Alot of fans would be discouraged if the Pacers gave up. They need to show everybody what they can do.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Abby. You should never just give up and throw in the towel. Yes the younger guys need experience, but there are also veterans who can play, and point them in the right direction. But with their two best players down, it will be harder. They need to face the adversity and make sure that the team knows they must band together and fight for a playoff spot. Besides a few games, i believe the Pacers can compete with any team in the NBA. They now have somewhat of a trouble free team, and they need to build on it.
ReplyDeleteI think with this few of games left I think you should put the young guys in and see if you can't land a solid dpick in the draft coming up.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dom the Pacer won't do anything in the playoffs and they really need some more big time players.
ReplyDeleteI think they should still put their best effort out, but its only hurting them in the long run. The pacers would be better off with new players. So what if we have one bad playoff; it just means nextyear we would have a better team.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with abby, although its setting a good example if they go into playoffs, but i think you arent thinking about the bigger picture. Its a strategic move to do, but it allows more benefits. If they dont really have a good enough chance, then they shouldnt go for it, and instead get a better spot in the draft.
ReplyDeleteI feel like they should give it their best effort. I feel like backing down would send the wrong message. It would send a message of when the going gets tough, you just quit. This kind of idea is not healthy for the players, especially the rookies. More importantly, this is not a healthy message to send to the young children who look up to these star athletes.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Dierovante. Simply giving up is sending the wrong message to people. Also, it is a cop out. These athletes are paid to play the best basketball that they can. I don't think it's fair that they get paid to just give up because they are facing some competition.
ReplyDeleteI think the Pacer's should continue to keep pushing towards the playoffs. If they just throw in the towel now, what's that going to show the fans? Just throw away all your hard work throughout the entire season, when a few players get hurt? Yes, the young players need experience, but this is the time to prove themselves. If they can manage to pull off wins with the new players, then it's going to restore the lost hope and pride to the Pacer's fans and even the team themselves.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Briana, if they give up now what's that going to teach the young kids that look up to them? The Pacer's are finally starting to get their fanbase back up and their harsh reputation restored. If we quit now, then why'd we even bother to go through all this trouble in the first place?
ReplyDeleteI think that the Pacers should put their best effort forward and try to make the playoffs. It doesn't make since to give up now when there's still twenty games still left to play. This is the first time in a long time that the Pacers have represented Indiana well, and I think they should go for it while they have the opportunity. It would be silly to waste this chance.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anna. I think people would think less of the team if they just quit now and stopped trying. What about the fans who supported them all season? They would all be disappointed to know that it's over so soon when there's a good chance of continuing on. Even if they don't go far in the playoffs, at least they'll get recognition and experience being in it this year. That only prepares them more and creates higher expectations for next season.
ReplyDeleteI think the pacers should play hard to the very end. I dont think it is good idea to tell your team just to give up. Maybe next season we will get better players, but for right now we should work with what we got.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Buck money they shouldnt give up now even though the season is almost over. Trying to lose will more than likely effect the players motivation and spirit. It would look better on the team if they dont give up.
ReplyDeleteI think the Pacers should not necessarily "shut it down" but they should definately let their younger players play so they can get more experience which will aid them next year. Even if they do make the playoffs this year, there is no way they can make it very far so they should just concentrate on building the team up.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Pacers should try their hardest and try to win and make the playoffs. The young players are getting playing time now that the two best players are out. They have talent in Rush and Hibbert. I think once they develop the Pacers will have a better chance to make the playoffs. They should do everything they can to win. I do not think there is an ethical choice to be made. The players would all like to make the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elias because I don't think that you should just give up. They should get the younger guys ready for next year. They may or may not get a good player for next year but they should not just give up. They need to work and try to make the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elias that they should continue to play hard til the end. If they quit, that will only ruin morale, and if they don't believe in themselves, then why should we?
ReplyDeleteI believe the Pacers should stay strong and try their hardest without their two best players. I don’t think I would be right of them to give up and not even try to win anymore games. Even when things aren’t looking good for a team, I think they should still try because they have young fans that look up to them, by quitting, this would cause them to lose hope. The young players will get their time to play eventually.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with dierovante, teams shouldn’t quit when the season isn’t in their favor. They never know what could occur; something good might come out of losing their two best players? They probably won’t win the entire tournament, but they could try. I think it is better to improve the team they already have instead of giving up and looking for the new draft picks.
ReplyDeleteI think the pacers should do everything thing they can to try and win. If they do try to go for the draft pick there is no guarantee there will be any benefits. If they have a chance they might as well go for it. I’d rather see them go for it and not make it then to totally give up and just wait until next year to do something. Next year the same thing might happen. There is an ethical choice.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Briana. There is a stronger message behind this. They are relying too much on two players if they just quit. It is a team sport and there are plenty of people on the team that talent. If they work hard they have a shot to do well. It is a better to at least make an effort then just quit.
ReplyDeleteI think they should put their best effort forward and try to make the playoffs because personally I don't think those other reasons would work. They would take too long and it probably won't work. People will look down at them if they quit. At least if they do bad, they have a good reason for it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kassie. The other players on the team should get a chance. It’s a team sport, not individual, so they should play like their on a team. It’s a bad idea to put all your weight on two players’ shoulders.
ReplyDeleteI think that the pacers should put there efforts towards getting in the playoffs. the pacers can still try there best, while giving the young experience. if the pacersare ableto play hard enough get a decent lead, then let the rookies in. this way they get there experience. But overall they need to try and gettothe playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with kassie, that no matter what, evenif you are the worst playeron the team go all out. Even though that may not play or whatever,it is still important for them to try. This goes for the pacers as well,if they play as a team then they stand a chance, but if they dont then theyll do bad.
ReplyDeleteI think that they should just try to give their young players some play time. The chances of them making the playoffs are slim to none. They might as well get the new guys some experience, so that maybe they could have a chance next season.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jenny. They should try their hardest to win, but they should consider giving their young players some time on the court.
ReplyDeleteI agree with abby. The Pacers need to face their fears and just play the rest of the season. They really need to show people what they can do especially after the last rough couple seasons they've had. They need to let all their fans know that they don't give up and to set a good example for the kids who look up to them.
ReplyDeleteI think that the pacers should go for a playoff spot. There is no sense in playing if your not going to give it your all. There is always a chance that we can make the playoffs. You should never give up.
ReplyDeleteI agree with derrick, you always have to tey your hardest. We have young players right now that we can play, our main focus should be on making the playoffs for the first times in the a while. The Pacers always seem to play hard but come up short.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I hate basketball, so it wouldn't matter to me if the Pacers made it to the playoffs or not... unless it was hosted in Indianapolis, and it brought in millions of dollars for our city... THEN I would care. But, until Pacers players stop shooting each other up at clubs and being arrested for other acts of violence, I couldn't care less about them.
ReplyDeleteI definately agree with Anna when she said that the Pacers players need to be positive role models for their younger fans. A lot of little kids really do look up to the Pacers, because they're hometown heroes, but until they start acting like it... I'm going to continue to not watch Pacer's basketball.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with alot of people, yes they are models for little kids that want to play basketball, the chances are they will not win it. Next season get the first round draft pick and make the team just a little bit better.
ReplyDeleteWith the injures that the Pacers are having I think the young players are getting more experience than they thought. The Pacers haven't made the playoffs for 3 years, I think they should make the strongest push they can to get into the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with bstasik29 because people would give up on the Pacers if we just gave up this season. We coined the phrase "In 49 states it's basketball, but this is Indiana". I think the Pacers should take that to heart and play as if they will never play again. If we keep going then it will show the NBA that the Pacers are going to be a factor in the NBA.
ReplyDeleteThe Pacers should put all effort they can towards making the playoffs. Why should a team ever give up if they had hope to make it to the play offs. The team is not meant to sit back and not even care if they lose. They still have hope.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kocher. They should play the rookies and inexperienced players and hope they can lead the team to the playoffs. They should push as hard as they can to go as for as they can this season. If they cannot win either way then we should move the team to alaska.
